Have you guys heard? Us dogs now have our own form of currency! Well, it’s cryptocurrency to be exact – and there’s loads. We’ve heard humans really like Dogecoin, but there’s also others like UnderDog and even Shiba Inu Coin!
Dogecoin was apparently started as a joke (We’re not sure what’s so funny) and famous humans have been getting excited about it, like Elon Musk and Snoop Dogg (confusingly mom told me he is actually a human, not a dog).
Even that tiger lady Carole Baskin’s getting in on it, but she’s gone for CAT currency – we’re not sure we like the sound of that one.
You might be wondering what exactly is a cryptocurrency? Well it’s kind of like money – but there’s no banks, and you don’t use notes and coins like the humans usually do – which is great because we don’t have any pockets to keep our wallets in and it’s very difficult to handle without opposable thumbs.
It’s all to do with what the humans call investing. A bit like when we take socks and keep them safe behind the sofa, because the fun value will be much higher when we give them back again in a few months’ time. We trick our pawrents into thinking they only have four socks to their names, when in fact we reveal they have upwards of ten. Smiles and waggy tails all round.
Instead of banks and real money, cryptocurrency uses some technology called blockchain, which uses lots of secure blocks of data, all connected together, which can share information and make transactions. No, we don’t really get it either.
But we still think it’s great that dogs are finally getting our own currency, after all, we have a lot of important business to get done. Although, I’d much rather trade in something I can get my teeth into, like a nice juicy bone.
In the future, you might even be able to use currencies like Dogecoin to shop at more places online – which gives you a bit more time to work out exactly how you get your paws on some.
