Saltdean Lido Dog Swim

Saltdean is a small coastal town on the outskirts of Brighton and pride themselves on being very dog friendly.  The Lido, built in 1938 and is the only Grade 2* one in the country, was rescued from development by a group of local unpaid volunteers and after a £3m revamp, was re-opened in 2017, run by the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company.  They have professional operators to run the human swimming sessions during the summer, but the Dog Swims are a fund-raising event,.

They have a 40m heated pool with wide, shallow steps on one side, which makes it very easy for dogs to climb out of, and a gently sloping paddling pool, with a slide and water spouts too for those who’re not quite so adventurous.  There’s lots of grass to run around on and the site is completely secure.

It’s very easy to reach from London, even by public transport and in addition to the Lido, there is a large park behind us and a dog-friendly cafe with fabulous views, just across the road by the beach (they even serve doggy ice-cream).
