We’ve heard about it for Humans but there are now CBD products designed specifically for us dogs too! According to statistics, “searches for ‘CBD for dogs’ are up 7400% over the last 5 years” (https://explodingtopics.com/blog/pet-industry-trends).
However, before giving CBD oil to your furry best friend you might want to check a few things.
Where does it come from?
Has it been tested?
What are the benefits?
Is it addictive?
Is it legal?
Can CBD oil for dogs be used with other medication?
We don’t have all the answers, but we did want to provide a helping paw to answer some of your questions about the super oil that humans are swearing by.
What is CBD oil?
CBD stands for cannabidiol which is the second most prevalent of the ingredients in marijuana. However, CBD is taken directly from the hemp plant – related to the marijuana plant.
How does CBD affect dogs?
Whilst there have been no formal studies on how CBD affects dogs, cannabinoids communicate with the receptors found in the central and peripheral nervous systems. This helps the body remain in a healthy, balanced state.
How can CBD help dogs?
According to anecdotal evidence some dog owners have suggested that CBD oil can “treat pain, especially neuropathic pain, as well as helping to control seizures”. (https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/cbd-oil-dogs/). Dr. Klein has also suggested that CBD oil is “used because of its anti-inflammatory properties, cardiac benefits, anti-nausea effects, appetite stimulation, anti-anxiety impact, and for possible anti-cancer benefits, although there’s no conclusive data on this use”. (https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/cbd-oil-dogs/)
It’s also been reported that CBD can help minimise aggressive behaviour in dogs, by suppressing excessive stress reactions and helping you calm your dog down.
Possible CBD Side Effects in dogs
With any medication, taking the correct dosage is highly important as it will minimise any potential side effects. Taking a high dose can result in potentially lowered blood pressure or drowsiness. Some dog owners have also suggested that their dogs become thirstier as less saliva is produced.
Where to Buy CBD Oil for Dogs?
You don’t need to request a prescription for CBD oil. However, before buying we recommend you ask your vet whether this is right for your pooch or not!
So… controversial; Would you give CBD to your DOG? Let us know what you think!
Would I give me pet CBD?
YES, is the short answer! We have seen so many videos and received positive customer comments regarding the Purity Pet Co CBD (Oil and Chews) that we know it works exceptionally well.
The pain relief and the changes in anxiety and behaviour issues that pure organic CBD can help with are incredible. BUT not all CBD is the same, and you MUST know what you are buying as there are so many RIP OFF brands with low quality and or harmful additives that could cause more damage. We would always suggest a low dosage of PET CBD, not Human CBD (as that can be too high a strength). We have had great success with Bacon and Salmon flavours (yes they love it)!
Also, remember that this is not just for dogs and cats. It is beneficial for all animals. For example, we have seen some incredible results from Horses and Polo Ponys, which significantly reduced recovery time and pain management and added a calming behaviour. The CBD Pellets are added to the feed and they love it.
I think we can all agree that if we can protect and improve the quality of life for our furry friends with natural products that have been on the planet for thousands of years, why wouldn’t we?
