Entry #20 – Laura and Clover and Rose

Entry #19 – Nikolett and Penny

“Being a dog mum is my whole personality, and Penny is my dream come true. I always wanted a Golden Retriever since I was a kid, and now I have my soul dog—my best friend. She’s taught me to slow down, appreciate the little things, and make the most of every day, even when it’s pouring rain. She’s shown me what truly matters in life, and I treasure every moment we share.
Penny is always my number one priority. Every adventure and trip is planned with her in mind—what she would love, where she’d have the most fun. We’re even alike in ways that make people smile. We’re both blond, small for our breed (or so people say!), and apparently look younger than we are. Even our personalities match!
Dedication is making Penny my world, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Entry #18 – Ceri and Princess Leia

“We tragically lost our beloved Sprocker, King Arthur, last August at just seven years old. Even the vets admitted responsibility for his death, leaving us devastated. He was loyal, kind, and full of energy—we miss him terribly.
In October, I shared our heartbreak with a friend at work, Ceri, a therapy dog mum. She was facing her own sorrow—her dog, Obie, had been diagnosed with lymphoma and given just two years to live. Wanting to give Obie the best final months, she asked if we would adopt her other dog, Vader, a three-year-old Springer Spaniel.
Ceri has no idea what she has done for our family. Vader—now Princess Leia—has settled in like she was always meant to be with us. She’s incredibly well-behaved and has been a source of healing during an incredibly difficult time.
For her selfless act of love, I would love to nominate Ceri for this prize. She not only gave Obie the care he needed but also helped mend our broken hearts in the most beautiful way.”
Entry #17 – Kerry and Mabel

“I always dreamed of being a dog mum, and Mabel made that dream come true when I rescued her from Dogs Trust in March 2023. At 7.5 years old, she was my little miracle—healthy, happy, and full of love. I thought I was giving her a home, but she ended up saving me. She instantly lowered my heart rate and helped me through a tough breakup with major financial challenges.
Mabel is the calmest, kindest presence, brightening people’s days wherever we go. She’s my little sidekick, and I’d do anything for her. I love matching outfits with her—luckily, we have similar hair colors, a total fluke since I hadn’t even seen a photo before adopting her! People always comment on our matching looks, and if I could, I’d get her custom-made dresses. For now, I stick to color-matching, which is easy since my favorite shades always seem to pop up in dog harness designs! 🤣”
Entry #16 – Ceren and Morley

“Morley came into my life when I was at my lowest, after losing my best friend, Baloney. His goofiness, mischief, boundless energy, and undeniable cuteness brought me back to life. Over the past year, he’s helped me heal—both mentally and physically—and I couldn’t be more grateful for him.”
Entry #15 – Lorna and RJ

“My dog RJ is my shadow! He waits outside the bathroom for me, looks out the bedroom window when I leave for work, and finds every sunny spot in the house to snooze in. I take him everywhere I can because he’s my spirit animal and my best friend. He makes me so happy, and I love him more than words can say! 💕🦮”
Entry #14 – Jo and Reba

“Being a dog mum means putting my dog’s needs before my own, no matter what. In late October 2024, Reba ran into the garden, got distracted by a squirrel, and tragically broke her neck hitting a tree. It was an emergency rush to the specialist vets, and while she survived, she came home 10 days later quadriplegic and doubly incontinent.
I put my business on hold to care for her 24/7—holding her up for toileting, cleaning her through the night, and taking her to four therapy sessions a week to give her the best chance at recovery. For months, she was at risk of being put to sleep, but she fought. Now, at nearly 10 years old, she can walk—though she still scuffs her left legs—and even run, despite weakness in her hind legs. She’s mobile, happy, and still determined to improve.
Life is precious, and we take it for granted too often. Reba is a miracle, and she deserves every sacrifice. While I now need to rebuild my business and restart my life, I wouldn’t change a thing about the past few months. She is worth everything.”
Entry #13 – Sheila and Coco Chanel

“Getting Coco was one of the best spontaneous decisions I’ve ever made, and I have no regrets. From Coco, I’ve learned what unconditional love and forgiveness truly mean! Giving my little girl the best of everything and seeing her happy brings me so much joy. Whether it’s her simple pleasures, like rolling in the grass or meeting her furry BFFs for evening walkies, those moments remind me of the purest happiness. This is what being a dog mom means to me 🐶💕 Coco was meant to be in my life – not once, but many psychics and clairvoyants have mentioned it. She was sent by my grandma from heaven, and she’s my soul dog!”
Entry #12 – Suzi and Jako

“Being a dog mum means embracing a love that’s loyal, unconditional, and filled with joy. It’s waking up to a wagging tail and bright eyes, knowing that, to them, your presence is everything. It’s learning to communicate without words, understanding each other in a way that goes beyond language.
In return, you gain a companion who’s always there—comforting you in tough times, greeting you with endless excitement, and loving you without limits.
Being a dog mum isn’t just about caring for a pet; it’s about building a bond that’s pure, unbreakable, and deeply fulfilling. They may rely on you for everything, but in the end, you realize they give you far more in return.
After trauma, Jako has taught me so much—not just about him, but about myself, other dogs, and the incredible breed he is. He’s been my greatest teacher, and I’m forever grateful.”
Entry #11 – Kat and her Pack

“My journey as a dog mum began with Billy, a rescue dog I begged my parents for when I was 11. Although my mum insisted we only get a Yorkie, I fell in love with a Staffie X JRT at a rescue centre. Despite her protests, we brought him home, and Billy became my constant companion, living with us for 21 and a half years. He was with me through every major life event, and when he passed, I was heartbroken.
Three months later, we rescued Nettles, a puppy farm survivor who brought joy back into my life. Her anxious energy and kisses helped me heal. Then we rescued Daisy, another puppy farm survivor with an autoimmune disease, followed by Clover, a Romanian street dog with a traumatic past. Lastly, Barley, a sweet, gentle boy, joined our family. Unfortunately, Barley passed away unexpectedly last year, just days before his 6th Gotcha Day. His memory lives on through a pair of earrings made from his ashes, and we continue to talk about him daily.
Through health struggles and the loss of my mum, my dogs have been my everything. They give me purpose and help me face each day. Being a dog mum is my greatest gift, even though it’s not always recognised on days like Mother’s Day. My dogs are my family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Entry #10 – Nina and Ellie

“Being a dog mum to Ellie means embracing a life filled with unconditional love and companionship. Every moment together is precious—whether it’s a cosy cuddle on the sofa or an exciting outdoor adventure. Our bond is built on trust and loyalty, seamlessly woven into our daily routines of shared meals, long walks, and even working side by side.
Ellie was born on an Irish puppy farm, so her first few months with me were spent teaching her to trust again and helping her adjust to a life of comfort rather than confinement. She also had half of her right ear bitten off before she came to us, likely from another dog in an overcrowded cage, vying for food. Despite her difficult start, she has blossomed into the most loving and resilient companion.
Her presence brings joy and comfort, and those little moments—like watching her tail wag with excitement—become priceless memories. Being there for her, understanding her needs, and celebrating her unique personality is my way of showing love and devotion. She is not just my dog; she is my heart, my family, and my constant source of joy. I wouldn’t trade being her mum for the world.”
Entry #9 – Jennifer and Vivienne and Trixie

“Dogs have been a constant in my life since childhood when my family welcomed two Labrador puppies, Daphne and Mac. Their presence brought comfort, and I soon amassed a collection of soft toy dogs, each with a name and personality. Looking back at childhood photos, there’s rarely one without a dog by my side!
Years later, my first “adult” dog, Vivienne, arrived after a tough 12-month battle with my mental health. She gave me a reason to get up, get outside, and find joy again. Then came Trixie, my whirlwind border collie, teaching me patience like only a collie can!
Raising them has been the most rewarding journey, filled with unconditional love, laughter, and challenges—including puppy blues! I’ve toilet trained them, taken them for every vaccination and health check, and watched them take their first steps into the big wide world. When they’re scared or unwell, I’m the one they seek for comfort. And when they’re excited, I’m the one they want to share their joy with.
I often say I couldn’t love my girls more if I’d given birth to them myself—and as crazy as that might sound, it’s true!”
Entry #8 – Tammie and Pebbles

“Pebbles joined our family through the charity Friends of Animals Wales. I’ve always been drawn to those who need a little extra love, and Pebs is no exception—he’s a survivor, having traveled all the way from Turkey and adapting to life on three legs after losing one of his hind legs. But if you ask him, he’s just as fast, strong, and mischievous as any other dog!
Affectionate, funny, and completely nutty, he’s the heart of our home and makes our family feel complete. I’m proud to be part of #TeamRescueDog. Whether I need some quiet time or a little nudge to remind me he needs attention, Pebbles is always there. He listens without judgment—the perfect companion. Oh, and let’s be clear… he definitely rules the sofa! 🐾❤️”
Entry #7 – Linzi and Riri and Sully

“My name is Linzi, and this is me with my miniature dachshund, RiRi, and Sully, my dachshund-toy poodle cross. I may not have biological children, but I absolutely love being a dog mama! 🐶❤️
Living with a spinal cord injury, I’ve undergone seven surgeries in the past seven years, and my dogs have been my greatest therapy. They stay by my side through every recovery, making me laugh through the pain and giving me a reason to keep going. They are my best friends, and life wouldn’t be the same without them.
Recently, Sully had to have emergency surgery for a blockage—it was touch and go, and it made me realise just how much he means to me. We truly don’t deserve dogs.”
Entry #6 – Lauren and Odin

“Here’s my entry for the dog mama competition—some snapshots of me and my babydog, Odin, on our trip to Venice last year. He’s a 6-year-old Patterdale terror (not a typo! 😂).
I love this idea because, while I’m now a stepmum, after five years of trying for a baby and two failed rounds of IVF, I’m accepting that I won’t have a child of my own. But Odin will always be my baby. He’s my comfort when I need it, my reason to smile, and my constant companion.
I love being a dog mama!”
Entry #5 – Lisa and Nelly, Snoop and Roma

“Being a dog mum has truly saved me. We got Nelly in 2020 while my husband was battling cancer—she was our little saviour, pushing him to get out and walk even on his worst days. In 2022, Nelly had puppies, Snoop and Roma, and we kept them both.
Tragically, I lost my beautiful husband in 2023, and my dogs became my lifeline. They got me out of bed every day, comforted me when I just needed to cry, and somehow always knew when I needed them most.
I couldn’t have gotten through my darkest times without them. I adore them and am truly grateful for them every single day. My fur babies really are my children the angels sent knowing I would need them. It’s also the 2nd anniversary of my husbands death falls on Mother’s Day this year 30th March.”
Entry #4 – Laura and Luna

“I’m dog mum to Luna and to Molly, who sadly passed in 2021. Luna and I share a wonderful life full of adventures, always looking out for each other. ❤️
I work for a mental health charity, and Luna comes with me most days—bringing smiles to everyone. She’s fun, loving, and completely bonkers, but she has also healed me and so many others.
I feel so grateful to be her mum. She keeps me active, makes me laugh every day, and is truly a beautiful soul.”
Entry #3 – Lisa and Red

“My first pooch brings me joy every single day. I never truly understood the happiness a dog could bring—until I had one. Now, I can’t imagine life without her. I just love her! ❤️🐾”
Entry #2 – Nicky and Baxter

“Me and my partner went through 12 miscarriages and couldn’t carry, so we rescued our boy, Benson, to complete our family. Then, 1.5 years ago, we introduced Baxter—a little brother for Benson.
Benson was diagnosed with DM 2.5 years ago, and heartbreakingly, we lost our soul boy six weeks ago. Our world has been turned upside down 💔. Baxter misses his brother just as much as we do.
Mother’s Day looks a little different for me—my boys have four legs, but they mean everything to me. Baxter will continue to have the best life, just as Benson did, right until the very end.”
Entry #1 – Sophie and Taco

“We welcomed our baby, Taco, in October 2024, and to say he’s changed our lives is an understatement. I joke that I love him so much, it feels like I physically birthed him! He’s my little shadow, always following me, but he’s also the most curious, adventurous soul.
A few weeks ago, we took him to the beach for the first time, and naturally, he loved it. He’s always been fascinated by water, so I braved the freezing sea (a questionable decision at 10°C!) to try and entice him in. As expected, he followed me—swimming around with the biggest smile on his face. I was so proud, I actually cried with happiness.
I may not be a human mother yet, but being Taco’s mum is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And let’s be honest—dogs are better than babies anyway, right?”
Thank you to all the amazing dog mums who shared their heartwarming stories with us. Each entry beautifully showcases the unconditional love, loyalty, and joy that dogs bring into our lives.
